Physical Contact: Among relatives or friends of the same gender, it is common for Filipinos to walk hand in hand or arm in arm. This is generally done so as a sign of affection, friendship or if they are shy and would like someone to accompany them. Filipinos tend to be modest and conservative in their interactions with their significant other, and public displays of affection among couples (such as kissing or hugging) is quite uncommon.

Personal Space: When interacting with people they are familiar with, Filipinos tend to prefer standing at an arm's length from one another. Around strangers this distance is farther. However, in public areas like a market or subway, personal space is often limited and pushing is common.

Laughter: While Filipinos often laugh in conversations, the meaning of laughter tends to depend on the situation. At times, laughing may indicate happiness or pleasure, while other times it may be used to relieve tension. In some circumstances, laughter is used as an attempt to cover embarrassment.

Pointing: Filipinos may point to objects by puckering their lips and moving their mouths in the direction they are pointing to.

Gestures: Putting one’s hands on their hips is a sign of anger.

Beckoning: The common way to beckon someone is by gesturing with the hand facing downwards and waving fingers towards oneself, the same gesture that would represent ‘shooing’ in Australia. If a Filipino wants someone’s attention, it is common for them to make a sound like ‘pssst’.

4. SOUTH KOREA AND NORTH KOREA PAINTINGS

Answer:

Korean painting includes paintings made in Korea or by overseas Koreans on all surfaces. The earliest surviving Korean paintings are murals in the Goguryeo tombs, of which considerable numbers survive, the oldest from some 2,000 years ago (mostly now in North Korea), with varied scenes including dancers, hunting and spirits.[1] The Takamatsuzuka Tomb in Japan, from the 7th-century end of the Goguryeo period, has paintings in Goguryeo style that were either done by Korean artists, or Japanese one trained by Koreans.[2] But more often influences came into Korea from China. Until the Joseon dynasty the primary influence was Chinese painting though done with Korean landscapes, facial features, Buddhist topics, and an emphasis on celestial observation in keeping with the rapid development of Korean astronomy.

10. in paragraph form , write your comparison and contrast of south korean and philippine nonverbal communication culture . write your answer on a separate sheet of paper

Answer:

Being in an intercultural relationship is exciting, albeit it takes a little bit more effort in terms of understanding one another. Having been exposed to Korean movies, dramas and music for years, I thought I already knew a lot about my boyfriend’s culture. Boy, was I in for a big surprise. For the past two years, I have been continuously discovering “interesting” things about Korean culture and traditions so let me share with you eight of the many cultural differences between Filipinos and Koreans. Koreans do not have a tradition of inviting people over to their homes to have dinner or even just hang out, and it has nothing to do with the size of their houses. I used to be bothered by this but I’ve come to accept that even if I offer my own room for them stay while in Manila, I probably won’t get to see their door in Korea. Philippines or in other places in the world where you could pay your bill at the table, one has to pay at the counter on the way out of the restaurant. Of course, no one briefed me about this on my first solo trip to Korea so imagine the confusion of the baffled waiter when I gave my money to him.

29. nonverbal communication

Answer:

Nonverbal communication is communication between people through nonverbal or visual cues. This includes body language (kinesics), distance between people (proxemics), voice quality (paralanguage), and touch (haptics).

Based on these considerations, nonverbal communication communicates just as much or, at times, more than verbal communication.

For example, if a person has an angry facial expression, enters into an aggressive stance (kinesics), encroaches upon another person's personal space (proxemics), and touches another person in an inappropriate way (haptics), then it is clear that a confrontation is in view, even if the verb communication sounds neutral. The nonverbal cues override anything verbal.
